Taste your way through Australia’s history on this expert-led Sydney walking tour, where each bite helps tell the story of a nation’s evolving food culture.
Perfect for those who have just arrived, as well as locals and those who want to go deeper in learning about Australian food, history, culture and more.
Starting from Customs House, your guide will give you a brief introduction to Sydney’s history and the significance of where the tour starts.
You’ll then head off for a coffee and learn about Australia’s casual, healthy and deeply-embedded cafe culture – and how this has now been exported around the world.
Afterwards, you’ll venture into Sydney’s city centre, making your way towards the Queen Victoria Building before looping back towards Circular Quay, with a range of mouth-watering food stops along the way. To save time, we might take the light rail back to Circular Quay (at your own expense).
You’ll finish at an Aboriginal-led restaurant under the sails of the Sydney Opera House with harbour views of the Bridge, with a shared grazing platter of native Australian foods.
Your host will give you our custom-made maps and give you heaps of recommendations for your time in Sydney: food, nightlife, art and much more – stuff you won’t find in any guidebook!

How does this tour compare to the Ultimate Sydney Walking Tour?
The main difference with our Ultimate Aussie Food Tour compared to the Ultimate Sydney Walking Tour is the walking tour has a greater focus on history and storytelling, and does a longer loop of the city area. The food tour is slightly lighter on history, with food (and stories about food) being the main drawcard. The other difference is the distance covered, on the walking tour, you’ll walk 4 to 4.5 km, while on the food tour, the walk is closer to 3 km (with use of the light rail helping cover some distance). The walking tour finishes in The Rocks, whereas the food tour finishes at the Opera House.
What’s included in the optional alcoholic drinks package?
The optional alcoholic drinks package includes two drinks at the final venue on the tour. For the first drink, you can choose either a local craft beer or wine. For the second drink, you can choose either another glass of beer or wine, a cocktail featuring native Australian ingredients, or a coffee, tea, juice or soft drink if you’d prefer.
