We won GOLD at the 2022 NSW Tourism Awards!

Justin Steele - 30th Dec 2022

Local Sauce Tours was recently awarded Gold in the Cultural Tourism category and was a finalist in the Excellence in Food Tourism category at the 2022 NSW Tourism Awards.

As first-time entrants, we’re so thrilled to receive this award which recognises just how well our inner-city tours showcase Sydney’s cultural tourism credentials. Sydney has such a vibrant culture and rich history, and we’re proud to play a role in helping visitors and locals discover it.

“As a first-time visitor to Sydney who was interested in making new friends while exploring the local bar/nightlife scene, I eagerly anticipated this experience. And I’m happy to say it absolutely surpassed my expectations! Justin and Nihar have curated something truly fun, engaging, and special.  They made sure our group had the chance to get to know one another while exploring some fantastic local bars and neighborhoods I would never have thought to visit.  And we’ve made some wonderful friendships because of this great experience.”

About Local Sauce Tours

Our four flagship tours, Drink & Discover Secret Bar Crawl (Surry Hills, Darlinghurst, The Rocks, CBD); Hidden Sydney – Stories, Snacks & Coffee (Pyrmont, Ultimo, Glebe);  Chinatown – Street Food & Secrets (Haymarket Chinatown); and Newtown Chewtown – Food & Street Art (Newtown), give guests a closer look at Sydney’s urban culture. We take guests all over the city to taste local cuisine, discover street art and experience the unique character of each suburb.

In addition to these regular tours, in 2022 we also launched a range of limited-edition tours to support the revitalisation of Sydney’s inner-city areas. Those tours included the Crime & Cocktails tour (Surry Hills, Darlinghurst) for the Heart of Surry Hills Festival; the Neon Treats – Chinatown by Night tour (Haymarket, Chinatown) for the Neon Playground festival and our Vivid Lights Secret Bar Crawl for Vivid Sydney.

Finally, in 2022 we hosted 13 Refugee Chef Dinner Banquets, in partnership with Parliament on King (Newtown). At these intimate dinners, guests hear first-hand from refugee chefs about their experiences, while enjoying delicious homemade food from their homelands, with cuisine options as diverse as Palestinian, Iranian, Ugandan, Sri Lankan, Pakistani and Burmese. All proceeds from the dinners go to the chefs and to support their hospitality training.

Drink & Discover – Secret Bar Crawl (The Rocks)

This year Local Sauce Tours welcomed over 2300 guests across 260 tours, while supporting in excess of 50 local businesses. While our tour company was created to give guests a fun and memorable Australian experience, supporting Sydney’s hospitality sector is a big part of our mission statement. After all, without our amazing hospo partners, we wouldn’t exist!

We are so proud of this award, but it represents so much more than a trophy in our pool room. It’s a true testimony to all of our incredible partners, tour hosts and the role we all play in showcasing the cultural vibrance of Sydney, New South Wales and Australia. We look forward to giving even more guests the Local Sauce treatment in 2023!
