Newtown Chewtown – Food & Street Art

What you’ll do

Eat your way through Newtown like a local and check out amazing street art!

Newtown is a truly diverse neighbourhood, and on this experience, you’re going to see and taste a bit of everything. You’ll start at the iconic “I Have A Dream” mural on King St, where your host will give you a run-down on what makes Newtown so special.

You’ll then set off to sample some of Newtown’s multicultural cuisine, with 4 food stops along the way (all food included). Cuisine options include Egyptian, Turkish, Italian, Japanese, “Australian” and more! Vegetarians and vegans are sorted too – Newtown is famous for its many vegan-friendly restaurants. Your host will point out some of the neighbourhood’s best street art as you explore the area.

You’ll finish at a popular brewery for a shared tasting paddle or a glass of craft beer. Your host will point out several other restaurants if you’re still hungry, otherwise enjoy a drink with your fellow guests.

What’s included

  • 3 hour guided activity
  • 4 different snacks/samples from different restaurants
  • 1 alcoholic or non-alcoholic drink
  • Photos shared after the tour

Tour details

Perfect for: Solo travellers, couples or small groups. You’ll be in a fun and friendly group consisting of locals and travellers.

Group size: Up to 12 people (no minimum numbers). For private tours we can take more – contact us for details.

Age range: This tour is great for all ages, including teenagers. Although we visit a brewery at the end of the tour, guests under 18 are allowed provided they are accompanied by a parent or guardian, or you can choose to end the tour before the brewery. Given the types of food sampled, we recommend the tour only for children aged 12 and above (or those with more “sophisticated” palates).

Start location: We meet at the iconic “I Have A Dream” mural at 301 King St.

End location: We finish at a craft brewery, just 5 minutes walk back to Newtown train station.

AccessibilityThis tour is wheelchair-friendly and accessible for guests with vision-impairments. We cover approximately 2km but the route is flat, with no stairs or inclines. The total walking time is approximately 30 to 45 minutes, but with plenty of food stops along the way.

Dietary notes: Vegetarians, vegans, guests with gluten-free diets and any other dietary requirements are more than welcome – just let us know in advance.
