What you’ll do
Sydney’s Chinatown is full of secrets and excellent restaurants, and on this experience, you’re going to see and taste a bit of everything!
On this tour you’ll sample a range of street foods and snacks from some of Chinatown’s best restaurants, with a minimum of 4 food samples included. All samples are snacks or street foods that represent different parts of China and are designed to be eaten on the move. Vegetarians, vegans and guests with other dietary requirements are more than welcome – just let us know in advance.
This tour has a strong focus on uncovering Sydney’s long connection with China, and the contributions Chinese-Australians have made to the community. You’ll learn more in 2.5 hours about Australia’s Chinese community than you could possibly imagine, and “pub trivia” style games will keep it interactive and fun.
At the end of the tour, you’ll receive a map and guide to Chinatown, covering all the best restaurants and what to order.

Up to 12 people (no minimum numbers). For private tours we can take more – contact us for details.
Age range:
This tour is great for all ages, including children. Given the content of the stories, we recommend it for children aged 8 and above.
Accessibility:
This tour is wheelchair-friendly and accessible for guests with vision-impairments. We cover approximately 1.25km but the route is flat, with no stairs or inclines. The total walking time is approximately 30 minutes, but with plenty of food stops along the way.
Dietary notes:
Vegetarians, vegans, guests with gluten-free diets and any other dietary requirements are more than welcome – just let us know in advance. Please note that we can serve vegetarian/vegan OR gluten-free foods, but if you require both, we will struggle to provide suitable alternatives and would not recommend the tour. If you’re vegetarian and require gluten-free food, that is OK though.
Start location
We meet outside Paddy’s Markets, directly across from the southern end of Dixon St mall (opposite the Covent Garden hotel and Emperor’s Garden restaurant).
End location
We finish basically where we start, at the red gates at the southern end of Dixon St.

Great snacks with fun facts and history along the way!
We went on the Local Sauce Chinatown food walking tour today for Mother's Day. My three daughters and I had a great time. Bunny our guide gave us loads of interesting information and we had 5 food stops. We highly recommend this experience, we were introduced to restaurants we have never seen before, and we eat in Chinatown regularly. Bunny was an awesome guide and made sure that everyone had fun and learned something along the way. Thanks Anne and the girls.

Excellent tour - you'll learn lots
I was gifted a voucher to use with Local Sauce and choose this tour with a friend. We had so much fun on the tour, led by the wonderful Eddie. I can't recommend this tour highly enough, we learnt so much about Chinatown, Chinese immigration to Australia and the connected history shared between countries. We also got to try a range of different foods from multiple regions, learning about the different flavours, history of the ingredients and various styles of cooking. It was an excellent day out, anyone taking this tour will enjoy it (even if you're a Sydney sider and relatively familiar with Chinatown, you'll still learn lots and get to try some new foods). Thanks also to Eddie who was incredibly knowledgable and a wonderful guide for the day! I'm looking forward to booking another tour with Local Sauce in the future.

Fabulous team morning and insight to our Chinese history and food!
Justin's tour and local knowledge of Chinatown and Australia/Chinese history was fabulous. We enjoyed learning about our history and discovering local foods and meeting the restaurant owners. As a team it was a great activity to enjoy together as well as learn more about Chinatown and each other. Justin has a great knowledge of both culture, history and food which made for an entertaining and personable tour. Will certainly recommend the tour and definitely try all the restaurant suggestions on the bingo card. Thanks Justin, was a lot of fun.

Great way to get to know the hidden gems
The tour with Jason was fantastic! I learnt so much about the history of Chinese people in Australia which really has brought Chinatown to life for me! I also love that I now know some great spots to go to which I definitely would have never known other wise! Great experience. Thanks Jason

Cultural team bonding with a side of yum!
For our team Christmas party, we took the Chinatown Tour - Street Food & Stories. Justin took us on an informative, emotional and tasty journey. It's often said that when living in a city, you don't get the opportunities to appreciate the history and culture.
