FAQ
Yes, all our tours are available as private or corporate tours. Please contact us to find out more.
Yes, we offer gift vouchers and they can be redeemed on any of our tours. Our gift vouchers are valid for 3 years from the date of purchase, and we can send a customised gift voucher by email to the lucky recipient.
We offer two self-guided walking tours which are free, one focused on female street art and one featuring pieces by the well-known street artist, Scottie Marsh. We don’t offer free guided tours but we do try to make our tours very affordable. If you are budgeting, check out our blog piece on saving money in Sydney. All of our tours represent outstanding value for money, with inclusions such as delicious food and drinks, a maximum of 12 people, and extra surprises on tour to create truly memorable experiences.
In Australia, tipping is optional. Having said that, we encourage our guides to go above and beyond in providing personalised recommendations and info to make your time in Sydney amazing! If you appreciate what they do, a $10 to $20 tip per person is greatly appreciated. All guides accept cash or you can use this link.
Most of our food tours include at least 4 decent-sized snacks which are enough for 99% of our guests to feel comfortably full by the end of the tour. Check the “What’s included” section on your tour for more details on what you can expect.
Yes, please eat beforehand or arrive 10 minutes early and get some food at the first bar. There is always an opportunity for more food during the night, but we don’t recommend showing up on an empty stomach (or several drinks in for that matter).
Yes! While you would think a Secret Bar Crawl involves a lot of drinking, this is not a “pub crawl” with cheap shots and sticky dance floors. You are welcome to drink as much (within limits) or as little as you like. In fact, we often have guests join the Secret Bar Crawl who don’t drink at all, but are just looking for a fun night and to visit a few new venues, or are travelling solo and don’t feel comfortable going to bars on their own. Drinking alcohol is not at all necessary to enjoy one of our tours!
Definitely! While anytime is a good time to take a Local Sauce tour, our guests who take a tour towards the end of their time often lament that they didn’t do it earlier. That’s because part of our goal is to give you the insider info to really make the most of your time in Sydney, with every guest receiving a map with our personal recommendations.
Things get wet. Grab an umbrella or rain jacket and get out there! Our tours are held rain or shine, and unless it’s dangerously rainy (extremely rare) our tours will proceed. Please check the conditions and dress appropriately. Most of our tours involve a fair amount of time indoors, so if it is foul and rainy weather, your guide will adjust the route to maximise time spent out of the rainy weather.
Our “Ultimate Sydney“, “Newtown Chewtown“, Chinatown and “Small Bars & Street Art” tours are wheelchair friendly, although please check the accessibility notes on each tour page for more details. Unfortunately, the Secret Bar Crawl tour is not normally wheelchair friendly, but if you let us know in advance, we can adjust the route and the bars we visit to make sure you can participate. Please note that as the Secret Bar Crawl has three different routes, some of them might be appropriate for guests in wheelchairs or with mobility issues. Our Tuesday night route through the city centre can be adapted to visit bars that are all wheelchair-friendly, but our Thursday and Saturday night routes (in The Rocks and Surry Hills respectively) both visit bars in basements or up flights of stairs, in older buildings that unfortunately do not have elevators.
Our “Ultimate Sydney“, “Newtown Chewtown” and Chinatown tours are all appropriate for children, depending on their age. For the Local Sydney tour, we walk approximately 2.5 to 3 km total, at a relaxed pace, over 2.5 hours (with a coffee break in the middle). Our Chinatown tour is shorter in both distance walked and tour duration (1 km and 2 hours), but given the content of the stories focusing on Australian-Chinese history, we would recommend it only for children aged 8 and above. Our “Newtown Chewtown” tour is suitable for children aged 12 and above. And our “Ice Cream & Street Art Adventure” is custom-made for kids!
Our “Ultimate Sydney“, “Newtown Chewtown” and Chinatown tours are all baby stroller friendly. No babies on the Secret Bar Crawl though!
Unfortunately no – our guides can’t take cash payments for someone to join a tour, and all bookings need to be made in advance of a tour commencing. If you have any issues making a payment through our website, please contact us.
